Julie Lynn Glidewell Uhles left this life to be with her Lord and her son on January 15th, 2025.
Julie was born on June 6th, 1956, to Calvin and Ilene Glidewell in Kirksville, MO. Julie's family moved to Chandler, AZ in 1960, when she was four years old. She graduated from Chandler High School in 1974. Julie earned her cosmetology license during her senior year in high school and maintained that license her entire life, something she was very proud of. She worked in the cosmetology field before becoming a mom and then only cut hair for friends and family.
Julie married Don Uhles on May 20th, 1977. A marriage lasting almost 48 years. She was blessed with two beautiful children, a daughter Melissa, and a son Adam. Julie was an extraordinary mother. Her ability to listen, provide comfort, and make a loving home was her superpower. Her commitment to her kids had her driving them to gymnastics, speech & debate, choir concerts, and wrestling matches.
Don's career with the Arizona Department of Public Safety took Julie on many adventures across the State of Arizona. Julie had an outgoing personality that allowed her to make friends in the checkout aisle at the grocery store. This led to her making lifelong friends from Chandler, to Winslow, to the Navajo Reservation, to Phoenix, and Flagstaff.
One of Julie's greatest passions was cooking and hosting parties. Whether it was preparing her grandfather's favorite Chinese food dinner, a traditional Midwest stick-to-your-bones meal, Mexican food, or her favorite–a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, Julie's love always went into it. And no, you never cut corners if you cooked with Julie! Her home cooking made it hard to eat out. Her stuffing, pumpkin rolls, homemade candy, tamales, and flour tortillas were highly anticipated year-round. Sending food care packages to her grandsons also brought a smile to Julie's face.
Another of Julie's loves was dancing. Julie and Don danced at every opportunity, whether it was on a wooden dance floor or out camping on a dirt dance floor. Speaking of camping, this was another family favorite. Julie and Don spent their summers in the forest camping and going on rides in their Polaris Ranger. Putting around at an average speed of 10 to 15 MPH looking for wildlife was always a fun experience. Camping also gave Julie an opportunity to combine her passions, her grandsons, and cooking. She made prime rib dinners, jambalaya, and once served a Mexican food dinner to a crowd of over 40 people while camping. Generally, though, it was the grandsons' choice as to what she planned to cook.
Julie's children and grandsons were her life. After the loss of her son, Adam at age 27, her grandsons helped to heal her broken heart. They affectionately called her "Grammie." Those boys were threaded into everything she did. Trips to Disneyland, holidays (Christmas was her favorite), camping, family get-togethers, and as the kids got older, they even went on trips to Laughlin's casinos. She loved her slot machines!
Julie's warm, and loving presence as well as her energetic laugh will be greatly missed. The world is now less than it once was, without her in it.
She is survived by her husband Don Uhles, her daughter Melissa Uhles, Son-in-law Alex Duyck, and her daughter-in-law Jamie Uhles. In addition, she leaves behind four grandsons: Ethan Venjohn, Calvin Uhles, Aiden Uhles, and Henry Duyck.
Julie was preceded in death by her son Adam Uhles, brother Steven Glidewell, and her parents Ilene and Calvin Glidewell. We know that they are now having a joyful reunion.
A celebration of life will be held on Julie's Birthday, June 6th, 2025, at the family campsite. Please mark your calendars for this event. Plan to spend the afternoon or camp with us as we remember Julie. The family will send out a reminder along with directions to the campsite as the time nears.
