Juliette Duffett Obituary

Longtime Prescott resident Juliette Duffett died peacefully on June 18, 2024. She was 92 years of age.

Julie was born on Sept. 4, 1931, in San Diego, California to Harriet Guerin Bixby and Harry Llewellyn Bixby.

Preceded in death by her husband Walt, her son Jeffrey Scott Duffett, and daughter-in-law Tina Duffett, Julie is survived by her children Bruce Nelson Duffett and Susan Duffett; her brother Harry Bixby Jr. and his wife Adele of Santa Fe, NM; her sister Helen Bixby of Point Loma, CA; brother-in-law Dick Duffett and her loving cousins, including Vicki Shoemaker, Michael Guerin and Sandy Orazi. She is mourned by her seven grandchildren, Jessica, Joel, George, Melanie, Julie, Chloe and Keegan and her five great grandchildren, Katie, Trippley, Elijah, Declan and Bryson. She leaves behind nieces and nephews David Bixby, Kevin Bixby, Alicia Bixby, Vicki Watkins, Rick Duffett, Randall Duffett, and Kristy Warren.

Her father was a career Naval officer. Julie's family was in Honolulu when Pearl Harbor was attacked. After evacuation, Julie attended Point Loma High School, graduating in 1949. Then she went to San Diego State College and business college. After meeting in high school, Julie married her hero and the love of her life, Walter Nelson Duffett, in San Diego on July 26, 1952. While Julie worked as an executive secretary and engineering aide, Walt, a former Marine Sargeant, was in the U.S. Air Force where he would rise to the position of Lt. Colonel. Julie was very proud to be a military wife, joining Walt in Japan in 1954. She was also proud of her family, raising her sons and daughter as the family followed Walt in his military postings to Omaha and Colorado Springs. After moving from their first retirement home in Illinois, they settled in Tucson in 1978 and eventually to Prescott in 1993.

Julie enjoyed being a homemaker and was an avid practitioner of the domestic arts, knitting, sewing, embroidering and crafting. Julie was a charter member of the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors. She acted as an officer in the Prescott Noon Lioness Club and was also active in the Alpha Phi sorority and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Prescott.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Prescott, on Monday, July 15th.
