Julius Earl Dedon, lovingly known as Pawpaw—and to many simply as Joe—passed away peacefully at his residence in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on January 21, 2026, at the age of 85. He was a native of Mt. Hermon, LA.
Born on June 24, 1940, Julius lived a life defined by hard work, devotion, and a deep love for his family. To those who knew him best, Pawpaw was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He was the kind of man who showed his love through action—working tirelessly, providing for his family, and always being there when he was needed.
Pawpaw retired from the State of Louisiana after 32 years of dedicated service and was a Freemason for over 50 years. His strong work ethic was something he carried with pride and passed down through generations. He found joy in the simple things—fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and especially cutting his grass, which may have been his favorite pastime. These moments, big and small, are the memories his family will forever cherish.
Julius was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Sue Dedon.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Renea Richard and her husband, Richard Marullo; his grandchildren, Shelly Nichole Richard and Gregory Chase Richard and his wife, Crystal Richard; his great-grandchildren, Alexis Richard-Shano, Mark Shano and his wife, Krysten Roques, Kali Shano, Dominic Richard, and Donovan Richard; his great-great-grandchild, Mark Shano; sister, Betty Schilling; and sister-in-law Fritzi Wheeler and her husband Steve.
Pawpaw was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. His legacy of love, strength, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
