Julius Ogea Obituary

Julius Antoine Ogea, 99, of Choupique passed away peacefully Sunday, April 4, 2021, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born November 27, 1921 in Welsh, La. Julius worked for Livingston Shipyard prior to being drafted into the United States Army. He was inducted on July 30, 1943, and entered active duty on August 13th of that same year. At the that time he served in World War II as a Corporal in Troop Americal Division. He also as a served Military Policeman. He spent most of service in Bogainville.
Julius was a decorated soldier as he achieved the following medals and awards: World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with 2 bronze stars and 1 bronze arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star and a good conduct medal. Julius was awarded an honorable discharge on Feb. 5, 1946.
Upon completion of his service, he returned to his previous job at Livingston Shipyard. Julius went on to work for American Bridge. During his employment there, he helped construct what is known to us as the I-10 and I-210 bridges. He retired from American Bridge in 1980. He then continued his career working for Austin Contractors until his final retirement in 1993. Julius was a member of the American Legion Post 108, where he served for many years alongside his wife. He was also a member of the VFW Post 8107, where he served as a Quartermaster. In 2015, Julius was recognized as one of KPLC TV's Hometown Patriots. In his interview, which was televised by the local news station, he shared some of his experiences from World War II.
Julius was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his crops with others. He furnished many green onions to area restaurants over the years. Julius loved spending time with family and always enjoyed a good crawfish boil or Birthday party in his honor. He will always be remembered for his big smile; belly laughs and the love he had for all the babies that came into his life.
Julius is survived by his six children, Jerry (Carol) Ogea of Whitehouse, Texas, Donald (Cheryl) Ogea of Oden, Ark., Carol (Stanley) Chaisson of Sulphur, La., Glenn (Irma) Ogea of Choupique, Mark (Cheryl) Ogea of Carlyss, La., and Nancy (Sam) Roy of Oden, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Leroy Ogea and Francis Ogea; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Kennedy Ogea, and great granddaughter, Penelope Scott Landry.
Funeral service honoring Julius' life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in Johnson & Robison Funeral Home of Sulphur. Visitation will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Cremation will be entrusted to Johnson & Robison Funeral Home. A private interment with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, in Thornwell Cemetery.
