June Laverne Dewald, 91, LaMoure, ND died Wednesday June 5, 2024 at the St. Rose Care Center.
June was born June 22, 1932 at Streeter, ND, the daughter of Chester and Augusta (Fandrich) Devereaux. She attended the local rural school 2 miles from the farm and then Medina High School.
She and Verner Dewald were married November 14, 1950 and made their home on a farm 5 miles North of Streeter. Following Verner’s death from lung cancer on March 30, 1995, she continued to live on the farm until 2010. June lived with her daughter Pam and Les on their farm in LaMoure from 2010-2017 when she entered the Manor St. Joseph in Edgeley until 2022 when she moved to the St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure.
June was a member of the United Church of Christ in Streeter. June endured a challenging farm life with those harsh ND winters!! She used to help her Dad on the farm (such as picking rocks as a child) and then when she got married she worked hard on the farm where she operated farm equipment, milked cows by hand, and raised beef cattle, pigs & chickens to top it off. June was famous for her yodeling skills where she yodeled for barn dances during her teen years and continued yodeling even past her 90th birthday in June of 2022!! June will be remembered for her great baking skills where her Rhubarb, Pumpkin & Cherry pies, her Plachindas, her Cakes & her Kuchen were her specialties.
In spite of the tough times, June always made sure her children could have a better life than she, a tribute to June’s high intelligence and strong work ethic. June was very proud of Wayne’s business accomplishments and she was able to attend his admission to the UND Accounting Hall of Fame in 2015. Although he has been in California since his college graduation, June has maintained a close relationship with Wayne, his wife Jessie and June’s grandchildren & their spouses, Stephanie (Michael) & Eric (Ami).
June’s greatest joy has been her loving relationship with her daughter Pam, Pam’s husband Les and her grandchildren (& Spouses), Corey (Jessica) & Kyle (DeAnna, Deceased) and of course her great grandkids, Kadance, Greer & Jackson!! Pam & Les visited June virtually every day while she was in the Manor & at St. Rose.
June is survived by her children, Wayne (Jessie Zhao) Dewald, San Jose, CA, Pamela (Les) Dathe, LaMoure, ND; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Dewald (Michael), San Francisco, CA, Eric Dewald (Ami), San Francisco, CA, Corey Dathe (Jessica), Fargo, ND, Kyle (DeAnna – Deceased) Dathe, Dickey, ND and 3 great grandchildren, Kadance Dathe (Kyle’s daughter), Greer Dathe (Kyle’s son), Jackson Dathe (Corey’s son).
