June Mackling, 87, formerly of Bucyrus, died Thursday at her home in Marion.

June was born July 1, 1936 in Bucyrus to the late Lester and Clara (Myers) Patton and was a 1954 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She married Don Mackling in 1957 and they shared 59 years of creating memories by traveling, golfing, playing cards and spending quality time with family and friends before his passing in 2016.

June was happiest around people and whether on the golf course, at a card table or dining out, many conversations and laughs were shared. She enjoyed wintering at their condo in Naples, Florida, which they did for 22 years. Her favorite memories of Naples were watching the sunset shining on the lake outside their condo. She loved going out for dinner and while in Bucyrus, she enjoyed Posey’s and also liked a warm bowl of soup from Carle’s.

June cared for her husband and son as a homemaker. Her home was always nicely decorated and the flowers around her yard welcomed you. June had a great love for animals, especially her Scottish terriers. She worked at various veterinary offices, and also was a licensed realtor. She served as a volunteer at the Bucyrus Hospital and she and Don proudly delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. June was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the hospital TWIG, and the Elks Lodge.

June is survived by her son, Erik (Heather) Mackling; two grandchildren, Dan and Beth Mackling; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Dewiel; nieces, Sue Tieben, Kathy Alt, Gwen (Paul) Brown and Gail (Tom) Pastirzyk and nephews, Todd (Renee) Dewiel and Gary (Tonya) Alt.

Along with her parents and husband, June was preceded in death by two siblings, Jack Patton and Eleanor “Sue” Ahlefeld.

Her family is planning a private gathering, and she will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery. If desired, donations can be made payable to your local humane society, animal shelter or a charity of your choice. These gifts will be accepted through Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus or can be given directly through the organization. Expressions of sympathy are encouraged to be shared on her guestbook.
