My first memory of Miss June was in the August of 1969. I was the new kid on the street, who just knew nothing in this "stupid, new California state" could possibly be as much fun as what I was forced to leave behind in Wisconsin. And, having to start 6th grade on top of a big move to CA, was terrifying. Well, until beautiful, friendly, June the neighbor was so welcoming-just like her children. She was funny, friendly and playful. And, she explained everything I needed to know about her beloved Jiggs, the bulldog. (I think she somehow knew I would happily make an excellent dog feeder when the family would take trips in the future-thru high school) jiggs and I were simpatico. Watching Jiggs chase down a ball and the laughter coming from June and the kids, made me feel like I instantly belonged on that whole street.
I am SO grateful I got to visit June (and Julie) in their side by side townhouses a couple years ago. June was still her funny, joke making, "fun June," and "fun mom," bouncing her funny one liners off Julie.
I tear up at the pain of how you all must feel with her loss... but, what an amazing mom you had. A great friend, wife, grandparent, nurse and doggie lover. We are all so lucky to have been part of Miss June´s life.
