June Sharkey

June E. Sharkey, 94, of Momence, passed away Wednesday (May 31, 2023), at Riverside's Miller Healthcare Center in Kankakee.

She was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Grant Park, the daughter of Leroy and Valeria Lehnert Engleking.

June married Howard C. Sharkey Jr. on March 27, 1948, in Grant Park. He preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1997.

Surviving are her five sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Sharkey, of Crown Point, Ind., Terry D. Sharkey, of Brook, Ind., Robert (Dawn) Sharkey, of Momence, Michael (Cheryl) Sharkey, of Thayer, Ind., and Christopher P. (Heather) Sharkey, of Momence; six grandchildren, Robbie, Josh, David, Christopher and Matt Sharkey and April Doyle; 11 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Mardele (Ione) Engleking, of Grant Park.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and granddaughter, Beth Sharkey.

June had previously worked at K-Mart for seven years and also for the Momence Community Unit School District 1 as a cook for three years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Momence.

June enjoyed crocheting and making afghans for all of her family. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, until the 11 a.m. funeral service, both at the First United Methodist Church in Momence. The Rev. Amy Smith will officiate the service. Interment will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Momence.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Momence.
