Her Legacy June Elyda Simons, 102, passed away January 30, 2025. She was born on June 21, 1922, in Danville, Illinois to Otto Small and Pearl (Thorne) Small. June married the love of her life, Gerald Simons (Jerry), on March 18, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. June grew up during the Great Depression and was incredibly resilient. At the age of 13 she survived receiving the wrong blood transfusion, putting her in the hospital for months. During WWII, June was a Bell telephone operator. In 1975 June and Jerry moved to California, where they helped found a Presbyterian church in the Rancho Santa Fe area. June was very artistic and was a talented china painter. In her later years she painted beautiful acrylics and pastels. June was a great listener and loved talking to people. She was incredibly loving and generous and completely devoted to her family and faith in Jesus Christ, her personal savior. June was a joy to know and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Her Family June will be missed by her children, Susan Kathleen (Steve) Zirschky I, Gerald Joseph (Laurie) Simons II, Richard Alan (Debbie) Simons; grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Simons, Melissa(Seth) Martin, Michael (Kimberly) Simons, Richard Simons, Steven (Jessica)Zirschky II; great grandchildren, Alexia, Shay, Catherine, Mason, Grace, William, Ashton, Jace, Kade, Ezra, Theodore; niece, Carol Carnes; and nephew, Jim (Sue) Newberg. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Simons (Jerry); parents, Otto and Pearl Small; sisters, Helen (Herbert), Marge (Phil); and brother, Mason.
Her Farewell June will be interned with Jerry at El Camino Memorial Park - Sorrento Valley, San Diego, California.
June's family and friends will gather for a Celebration of Life at a later date to be announced. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society. Please leave a message of comfort for June's family at 1-877-231-7900, or sign her guestbook at www.borekjennings.com.
