June Marie Thomas of Baltimore, Ohio peacefully passed from this world into the arms of her Lord and Savior on January 30, 2026 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born January 7, 1945 to the late Dolores and Karl Dennis in Lancaster, Ohio.
June married Greg Thomas on May 28, 1966 in Lancaster. Soon after they planted the roots of their family in Baltimore where they built a home and raised their three children.
June was a proud member of the first graduating class of Fairfield Union High School in 1963. She retired from Fairfield Industries/Fairfield County Board of Developmental Disabilities after dedicating many years to helping her clients develop new skills and improve their lives.
June was a longtime member of New Zion Methodist Church in Baltimore where she participated in the music ministry as a choir member, soloist, and song leader.
She loved music and singing and took great pride in singing with the Lancaster Community Chorus. Her love for music is something that she passed along to her children and grandchildren (though maybe not all the same types of music).
June was a big supporter of the Lancaster Festival from the very beginning and volunteered for many years. She and Greg were beloved by orchestra members for the baked treats they provided to them during rehearsals – especially her orange cookies!
June was an accomplished baker and cake decorator, having decorated wedding cakes for several family members, including both of her sons. She loved baking and entering at the Fairfield County Fair and attending the fair to see how her entries did, and to watch her children and grandchildren compete.
Of her many accomplishments, there were none greater than her legacy as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She devoted her life to being the best caregiver for her daughter Cindy, with whom she shared a special bond. She adored her grandchildren, and they loved her immensely. She was the glue that held the family together and always made sure they had fun vacations and their holidays were rich in tradition and full of love.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Greg, son Brian, daughter Cindy, and son Andy (Rachel); grandchildren Gage, Gavin, and Reagan Thomas; sisters Janet Griffith and Kathy Vogel, brother Fred (Tabatha) Dennis, sister-in-law Mary Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lola Dennis, mother-in-law Goldie Bowman, father-in-law Robert Thomas, and brother-in-law Larry Thomas.
A funeral service led by Pastor Cheryl Foulk will take place Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM at New Zion Methodist Church, 10991 Snyder Church Rd, Baltimore, OH 43105. Calling hours will be 4-7 PM Friday, February 6, 2026, at Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, 207 S. Main St., Baltimore, OH 43105, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
June’s family takes comfort in knowing that she is no longer trapped in a body that was failing her. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to FairHOPE Hospice, 282 Sells Rd. Lancaster, OH 43130, whose nurses provided compassionate care and guidance through the final stages of her journey.
