June Yvonne Turecek passed away in her home in Whitestown, Indiana on May 16, 2025. Yvonne was born at home in Harrison County in southern Indiana on July 27, 1931, to Fern (Moyars) and Edgar L. Miller.
She is survived by her brother, William (Sandy) Miller, children Mary Ann Campbell and Leslie (Charlie) Holder, her grandchildren Julie Kushman, Heather (John) McMahan, Sarah (Jenry) Azcona, Laura (Ramon) Aguillon, Grant Helms, Adam (Ashita) Merritt, Ashley Merritt and Emily Merritt, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Turecek, her parents, her sister Marilyn Sue Miller, her daughter Linda Sue Arndt, her sons in law Mark Helms, Dr. Robert L. Campbell and Ray Merritt and two infant grandchildren.
Yvonne grew up in Merrillville, Indiana and graduated from Merrillville High School. She also graduated from Mount Sinai (Chicago) School of Xray Technology and worked for a private Radiology lab in the Chicago area.
On September 16, 1950, Yvonne married the love of her life, James R. Turecek. They made their home in Mishawaka, Indiana where they raised their three daughters. Yvonne was an exceptional homemaker and found great joy in hosting family gatherings, especially during the holidays. She was an extraordinary gardener and loved to work outdoors in her flower gardens. God certainly bestowed a green thumb upon her.
Yvonne and Jim enjoyed attending Penn high school football games with friends and family and continued this tradition until her late eighties. In 2020 she moved to the Zionsville, Indiana area to be closer to her daughters and their families.
With the help of her family and the Caring Helpers of Zionsville and dear friend, Debbie Lee, Yvonne was able to stay in her own home. In addition to gardening, she was a voracious reader and often came home with a dozen or more books from the library.
Yvonne was a long-time member of Coalbush United Methodist church where she volunteered and regularly attended services until her move to Zionsville. Although her health kept her from attending church in recent years, her faith never wavered. Yvonne will be remembered for her selfless caring for others and her devotion to her family.
Funeral services will be held at Zionsville United Methodist church on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 1:00 pm with visitation beginning at 11 am. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon, Indiana.
