It is with great sadness and a lifetime of fond memories that we say goodbye to Junior Russell Green of Slaughterville, Oklahoma, who was called Home to the Lord on August 2, 2024, at the age of 79. Junior was born on July 19, 1945, in Westville, Oklahoma. He attended high school in Stilwell, and went on to join the United States Navy, serving his country during the Vietnam War.
A straight shooter through and through, Junior had a keen, dry sense of humor and the heart of a practical joker, always happiest when he was keeping other people on their toes. Junior was brash, blunt, and to the point – you never had to guess where he stood on the issues. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he went on to have a successful career in the Funeral industry, specializing in burial vaults. His career spanned many decades and several states, including his time working for Triad Burial Vaults in Kansas City, Missouri. Most of his working years were spent at Central Burial Vaults of Oklahoma City, and he retired after approximately 35 years of dedicated service.
Junior was such a hard worker and he truly enjoyed staying busy. Not long after retiring, he joined his son Michael, working alongside him and helping with his lawn care business. When he did allow himself some free time, he enjoyed tinkering with cars and diesel engines, perusing local estate sales, going fishing and camping, and watching old westerns and documentaries. He also loved traveling. Junior particularly enjoyed going places with Ruby, his love and companion of 54 years. The couple made especially wonderful memories together going to North Carolina, Colorado, and Missouri, and they especially loved going to the Grand Canyon. The couple also looked forward to their weekly Sunday morning breakfasts at Denny's.
Of all the things in life that elicited happiness for Junior, nothing brought him more pride and joy than his beloved family. He was a devoted husband and father, a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather, and a friend to many. As we honor the life of Junior Russell Green, let us cherish all the good times we had with him, the many laughs we shared, and remember him for his many accomplishments. He will be greatly missed.
Junior is preceded in death by his mother, Beulah May Green, father Robert L. Green, a brother, Johnny, and two sisters, Ruby, and Mildred.
He leaves his wife, Ruby Green, to treasure his memory, along with six sons – Dwyane Green and wife Judy of Medford, Oklahoma, Robert Green of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kevin Green and wife Siantie of Marlow, Oklahoma, Michael Green and wife A.J. of Slaughterville, Oklahoma, Steven Kidwell and wife Julie of North Carolina, and Joshua Kidwell of Springdale, Arkansas.
Junior is also survived by two brothers, Bernard Green of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Tommy Green of La Cygne, Kansas, two sisters, Betty Nichols of Texas, and Shirley Smith Bohanon of Missouri, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
