JW Williams (Sonny Man) went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2025, at Pebble Creek Nursing Home. Born in Fort Valley, GA, on January 21, 1941, he moved to Akron, OH, at the age of 17, where he graduated from East High School. JW was employed with Babcock and Wilcox, retiring after 34 years of service.
While in Akron, he met and fell in love with Jewerl Kemp. Their union created two sons. In his leisure time, he enjoyed horse racing, southern cooking, and spending time with his sons. He was preceded in death by his parents: Daisy (Arvell) Fulford, JW Williams Sr., Jewerl Kemp; Stepdaughter Myrtle (Kemp) Hodo; Daughter Darnessa Williams.
JW is survived by his sons: Jeffrey Kemp, Robbie Kemp; Stepchildren: Lillian Kemp, Deborah Kemp, Gary Wilson, Wayne (Darnell) Wilson, Michael Wilson, Kim (Curtis) Wilson, Teryle Wilson, Sylvia Wilson; Sisters: Earnestine Thomas, Patricia (Andre) Johnson, Audrey (Michael) Flinn. JW also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home.
