R. Kailey Burroughs, 76, resident of Kosciusko, died Friday, March 7, 2025.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Crestview Church. A second visitation will be at Crestview Church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Crestview Church, with the committal services to follow at Parkway Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Meggs will officiate the services.
Mr. Burroughs was born September 18, 1948, in Kosciusko, MS. His parents were Roy Sullivan Burroughs and Blanche Batton Burroughs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Claire Bernish of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Kailey graduated from Kosciusko High School in May 1966 and was a member of the Big Red Band. He graduated from Mississippi State University in May 1970 with a B.S. degree in Business Management.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Welch Burroughs; stepdaughter, Cyndi Rigby (David); step-granddaughter, Morgan Rigby; sister, Karen Burroughs Burnish of Cincinnati, Ohio; and nephew, Andy Bernish (Molly) of Easton, Maryland.
Following graduation from Mississippi State University, Kailey worked as an accountant and office manager for Mithcell Metal Products, Inc. In 1980, he went to work at Phelps and Crawley, CPA in Jackson, Mississippi, and later became a CPA and partner in the firm. In 1991, he accepted a job as a credit analyst at Merchants and Farmers Bank in Kosciusko. In 1992, he became the bank’s internal auditor; in 2009, he became the bank’s Chief Audit Officer. He remained in this position until the bank’s merger with Renasant Bank in September 2013. He retired from the bank in March 2014. In April 2014, Kailey became a part-time employee of Mitchell Metal Products, Inc., serving in the payroll department. He remained in this position until January 2020.
Since November of 2018, he has been attending Crestview Church. He joined the church in December of 2019 and served as a steward. He was also active in the North Mississippi Emmaus Community, serving as a walk Lay Director in April 2007. He served on various committees of the North Mississippi Emmaus Community and was treasurer of the Community for many years. He served as Chairman of the North Mississippi Emmaus Board of Directors from 2019. He and his wife Linda were Kitchen coordinators on many walks.
Kailey was active in the Kosciusko Lions Club, serving as Treasurer for many years. He assisted with their annual Christmas Basket Delivery and helped with the annual chicken lunch. He became inactive in the club during 2014.
Serving as pallbearers are Andrew Frank, Hollis Cheek, Jim Bridges, Steve Rawson, Doug King, Andrew Bernish, Mike Rozier, and Jan Deason.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jordan Black, Henry Jones, Jim Dendy, Ellen Sheedy, Doris Flint, Edwin Albin, Don Coleman, and Shaunna Rone.
In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be made to Crestview Church, P.O. Box 994, Kosciusko, MS 39090, or North Mississippi Emmaus Community, 12 Beach Road, Grenada, MS 38901.
