"The only scars in Heaven are the hands that hold you now"
Kailey Jean Herbert, 33, passed on August 25, 2025. Born in Westerly Rhode Island on July 30, 1992. She was the dearly loved daughter of Francis Herbert Jr. and Lauren Bettencourt.
Alongside Francis and Lauren for the better part of 20 years, Eliena Herbert and John Bettencourt, Kailey's stepparents, also cherished her as one of their own.
Kailey looked up to and admired her brother, Francis Herbert III (Kayla) and her sister, Tessie Manfredi (Tim), both of Westerly. She loved them both deeply, as they did her. A couple of the moments she talked about most frequently were her role in her big sister's wedding day, and the day she went skydiving with her big brother.
Kailey became an Auntie at the youthful age of thirteen with the birth of her nephew, Landon Herbert. Even at that early age, she was so proud to be his Auntie and loved him dearly from the day he came into her life.
Born and raised in Westerly, Kailey's first passion was the ocean. She spent endless summer days at the beach. She enjoyed swimming and surfing with friends. She also loved boating adventures and ski trips with her family.
When not at the water's edge, Kailey was a gifted athlete with a passion for team sports. She played multiple sports in Westerly. One of her proudest moments as a young girl was trying out and succeeding in becoming one of the first young ladies to play baseball in the Westerly Little League. After her successful time playing baseball, she went on to play softball with the same passion. In addition to her love for these moments, she also excelled in basketball and cross-country track throughout her adolescent years.
During her free time from her sports activities, Kailey also enjoyed listening to music, reading, and traveling. She was fortunate to travel to a host of destinations over the years. She visited Mexico, the Bahamas, California, along with numerous visits to Florida. Her trips to Florida included family vacations to Disney World and Daytona during her youth and multiple visits with Florida family in more recent years.
She was a proud graduate of Westerly High School, Class of 2010.
Kailey was a beloved member of a large extended family with stepsisters Hannah Deniger (Ashlie), Morgan Bettencourt (Frank), and stepbrother Noah Bettencourt (Sydney) all of Westerly. Despite coming together through the blending of their families, they developed a sibling relationship and spent quality time together making memories that will remain in their hearts forever.
At the time of her passing, Kailey was anticipating the birth of a niece in September, and a nephew in December.
Kailey was fortunate and blessed to have the love and support of five sets of grandparents, as well as multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We will miss Kailey deeply, but we will forever continue to honor and cherish the memories we shared with the incredibly witty, intelligent, talented, and beautiful soul that we loved and adored with all our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks. Please check back for the details as this will be updated once all is confirmed.
