Kaitlyn Diane “Carter” Gay, 21, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Kaitlyn was born on August 23, 2004, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, to Andrew and Jennifer Gay. She was a graduate of Atkins High School and was taking general education classes at Forsyth Technical Community College. Kaitlyn’s plans were to pursue a degree in forestry. Kaitlyn was employed by Allied Universal and worked at John Deere in Kernersville.
Kaitlyn loved exploring the forests, collecting mementos, and was an avid bird watcher. She also loved anything vintage. She recently discovered what an 8-track tape was. She enjoyed listening to a variety of music and spending time with her family and friends. Kaitlyn loved being, and was a great eldest sister. She shared joys and guidance frequently with her siblings. Katilyn also loved her cat, Jonas.
She was preceded in death by both of her grandfathers, John Gay and Jerry Rinehardt, and her uncle, Joseph Rinehardt. She is survived by her mother, Jennifer Gay (Robin); father, Andrew Gay (Melissa); siblings Katherine and Roman Gay; and grandmothers Sybil Rinehardt and Wini Gay “Gigi”.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller on Silas Creek Parkway, in Winston-Salem. The service will be officiated by Pastor James Williams. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
