Karel Sheveland

Karel Sheveland, of Lantana, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2023, after a courageous battle with kidney disease coupled with Lewy Body Dementia.
Karel was born on September 4, 1945, in Seattle, Washington to Cyril and Anna Sheveland. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Maureen; his daughter, Karen, and son-in-law Steve Springer, and grandchildren Hunter, Parker, and Gracie Springer of Lewisville, TX. Karel is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Al and Rosalie Sheveland of San Jose, CA; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Gary DeMartini of Burlingame, CA; his brother-in-law Dennis Mahoney of Half Moon Bay, CA, and sister-in-law Lisa Sabatini of Foster City, CA. Karel is also survived by his niece Jennifer Leader and her husband Fritz of San Diego, CA; his nephew, Jeff Sheveland and his wife Janelle of Wasilla, AK; Bryan DeMartini and his wife Hannah of Austin, TX; Amy Graziano and her husband Jason of Burlingame, CA; Danny DeMartini and his wife Tara of Larkspur, CA; Bridget Mahoney of San Francisco, CA; Megan Mahoney of New York City; Kathleen Mahoney of San Francisco, CA, and Maureen Mahoney of Los Angeles, CA.
Karel was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Sheveland, his mother Anna Wiesehahn and stepfather Paul Wiesehahn; and his loving son, Michael.
After serving in the United States Navy, Karel went on to graduate from California State University Fresno with a degree in accounting and furthered his education with a Master's Degree in Taxation. He had a very successful career as Corporate Tax Director for many years until his retirement in 2009.
Karel was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and traditions that were passed down from his mother. He loved the tradition of eating lutefisk and leftse at many Christmas dinners. He was a loyal and devoted fan of the Fresno State Bulldogs, the Las Vegas Raiders and the Oakland A's. More than following his sports' teams, his real loves were fly fishing and golf. He was most happy when he could enjoy a day of fishing or golf.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 5201 Cross Timbers Road, Flower Mound, TX 75022. The Mass will be live streamed at https://stphilipcc.org/mass. Karel's ashes will be placed in the Columbarium at St. Philip's Church in the niche next to Michael.
