HOLLAND, MA – Karen E. Horton, 79, of Stafford Road, died March 29, at Rose Monahan Hospice.
She leaves her sister, Sherill Hebert of Punta Gorda, Florida, cousins and many friends.
She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant the day of her college graduation. Following graduation, she went straight to internship and residency as a registered dietician for the US Army. She retired from the Army after 40 years of service and retired as a full Colonel.
Her 40 years of service brought her to many location making friends worldwide.
She was a lifelong member of the Archer Memorial Methodist Church in Allendale, NJ.
She was a member of the Elm Street Congregational Church, and at one time was the president of the Women’s fellowship and an organizer of the “Lunch Bunch”
Gardening and animals more especially dogs were her passions.
Her funeral will be held on April 11, in the Elm Congregational Church, 61 Elm Street, Southbridge. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 prior to the service.
Burial will be at the family plot, in Laurel Grove Cemetery, located at 295 Totowa Rd, Totowa, NJ 07512.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Elm Street Congregational Church, PO BOX 723, Southbridge, MA 01550, as well as Archer Memorial Methodist Church in Allendale, NJ.
