Karen L. Hurtig

Karen L Hurtig, 81, of Duluth, died peacefully August 5, 2025, surrounded by family. Karen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her.

Born on August 24, 1943, Karen grew up in in the French River area and graduated from Clover Valley in 1961. Karen married Cliff Hurtig on August 24, 1963, and had a daughter, Jodi Amundson. She worked for many years in the insurance industry, starting at The Hartford, then retiring from Otis Magie Insurance Agency. Karen cherished her family and was especially thrilled when her great-grandson Bode was born. Karen had a wonderful sense of humor and always put others before herself. She loved to read and tend to her flowers.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Elma and Rud Gustafson, brother Jerry and brother in-law Clint Hurtig.

She is survived by her husband Clifford, daughter Jodi Amundson, grandchildren Jessica Amundson and Jarrod (Sabrina) Amundson, great-grandson Bode Amundson, sister Peggy (Larry) Smith, and many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on August 19, 2025, at French River Lutheran Church from 1:00 pm until the 2:00 pm service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to French River Lutheran Church, 5310 Ryan Rd, Duluth, MN 55804.
