Larry Gene Hurtig

A Celebration of Life visitation for Larry Hurtig, age 81 of Royal, Ne. will be held from 10:00 -11:20 a.m. Friday February 7th at the Orchard Community Center/School Auditorium. Military Honors will be conducted at 11:30 with a luncheon to follow all at the Orchard Community Center. Larry passed away February 3, 2025 in Royal, Ne. Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview is in charge of arrangements.
Larry was born on November 3, 1943 near Page, NE to Theo and E. Lane (Peterson) Hurtig. He graduated from Orchard High School in 1963. Larry served in the United States Army National Guard. He married Cherylyn Frahm on February 19, 1966 in Orchard, NE. Larry farmed most of his life. After moving to Royal, Ne. in 1995, Larry worked various jobs including Hendrickson's Sand and Gravel, Bergstroms and CVA. He was a member of the Royal Fire Department since 1998.
Larry enjoyed playing guitar in the Drover's Band with his wife Cherylyn and Duane Boelter, football, bowling, playing cards and showing his antique cars. He especially enjoyed being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Cherylyn; son Troy Hurtig and wife Becky; daughter Colleen Oglevie and husband Brian; grandchildren Josh (Chelsea) Hurtig, Mirissa (Max) Knust, Taisha Hurtig, Makayla Oglevie (Jacob), 2 great grandchildren and siblings Sharon (Duane) Boelter and Marlene Hurtig-Carney.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sister Novela Burris, brothers Clyde, Dale, Mervin, Ray and Kenny 1 great grand baby Hurtig. Pallbearers will be Josh Hurtig, Max Knust, Todd Boelter, Kalin Thompson, Kyle Thompson and Alan Colson.
