Karen Ann (Esterby) Jacobsen, 74, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2024, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, surrounded by her loving family.

Karen was born on April 4, 1950, to Arnold and Nora (Michelson) Esterby, in Minot, ND. She was one of ten children and was an identical twin. She grew up in Minot where she attended and graduated from Minot High School. She was involved in a car accident at the age of 18 which contributed to health issues she experienced later in her life. She was united in marriage and from that union she had one son, Pat. She moved with her son to Fargo, ND, where she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital doing service work for patients at the hospital. She had met Leroy Jacobsen at a dance in the late 70’s and they were united in marriage in 1985. They managed their business together working in maintenance and cleaning until Karen’s retirement due to health issues.

Karen enjoyed gardening, canning, especially pickled beets, and had a love for flowers. She very much enjoyed decorating and interior design and would often decorate in peacock colors. She always owned several dogs and loved them as part of her family. Karen was a hard-working individual who was dedicated to her crafts, and a loving devoted mother to her son, Pat. She made friends with most everyone she met, had an infectious smile, a great sense of humor, and she will be sorely missed by all she’s touched.

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Leroy; son, Pat (Joanne) Thomas; grandchildren, Tanner and Jacob Thomas; stepchildren, Randy Jacobsen, Jill (James) Bala, and Rob Jacobsen; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Patty, Dianne, David, Kathy, Candy, Debbie, and Mike; and many other loving relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Nora; and two siblings, Arnold and Mavis.

Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Her final resting place will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, ND, at a later date.
