Karen Elane Johnson, Age: 82

Mar 08, 1943 - Oct 03, 2025

Karen Elane Johnson passed away on October 3, 2025 at North Kansas City Hospital.

Karen was born March 8, 1943 to Wayne and Virginia Moomey in Osceola, IA. She was blessed, however, to be raised by her stepfather, Marion Hancock who she thought of as her true father.

Following her family's move to Holden, MO, Karen attended high school where she met the love of her life, Harold M. Johnson. They were married for 65 years and had three children, Randy, Kerrie and Mindie.

As the wife of a United Methodist Minister, Karen was accustomed to the numerous moves to different towns during Harold's career when he was assigned to a new church. For each move, Karen's priority was to quickly make their new house a home for her family.

Karen was a stay-at-home mom until her children were older and she chose to work outside the home. She was happiest working in the health care field as a receptionist and later as an admitting clerk in several area hospitals. She loved to cook, knit, crochet and read. She was a talented seamstress and designed and sewed many beautiful clothes especially for her daughters, including formal gowns, and a stunning wedding veil for daughter Kerrie's wedding. She loved music and was a choir director in several churches.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold, who passed May 19th of this year; son Randy; great grandson Ollin Amos; sisters Janeece Moomey and Annetta Hancock.

She is survived by her 2 daughters Kerrie (Allen) Amos; Mindie (Mike) Thomas; grandchildren, Rachel (Scott) Matias; Travis Johnson; Cody (April) Amos; Bo (Michele) Amos; Derrick Shockley; Mariah (T.J.) Thurman; Michael Thomas; Taylor (John) Maynie; Tyler Thomas; great-grandchildren Rylie and Cameron Matias, Aiden and Nilus Amos, Harper and Braxton Amos; brothers David (Sue) Hancock, Steve (Marti) Hancock; nieces and nephews and many other extended family members and friends.

We love and miss you, "Mom", "Ba", "Karen" and feel comfort knowing you are once again with "Dad", "Papa", "Harold".

Karen requested a private family memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity at trumanhabitat.org.
