Karen J. Weakland

Karen J. Weakland, age 84 of Lima, passed at 3:13 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Shawnee Manor. She was born July 11, 1941 in Lima, Ohio to

the late Ivan Riley and Minerva Irene Vermillion Lawrence. On August 5, 1977 she married Jerry E. Weakland, who survives in Lima.

Karen retired from Northwest Enterprises where she worked in office management. She was a 1959 graduate of Lima Senior High School. She was

known for being an animal lover, being feisty, but also very loving. She was known as a 'mother hen,' a reflection of her lifelong nurturing spirit, and she continued caring for others at the nursing home until she no longer could.

She is survived by a step son – Thomas M. Weakland of Lima, a step daughter – Christine M. Raines of Georgia, a bonus daughter – Amy Chontos of Wapakoneta; 3 grandchildren – Rachel (Jacob) Kanady, Whitney (Josh) Garmatter, Logan Gross; 2 great grandchildren – Brayden Sexton and Ace Garmatter; a sister – Patricia L. (John) Young of Ontario, Canada; a special niece – Joyce Perrine of Lima; and several loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son – Jason C. Gross who passed May 22, 2011; a brother – Darwin R. Lawrence; and a sister – Greta I. Sammetinger.
