Karen Laverne Wilson (Patrick), of Arlington, TX, passed away on Thursday January 11, 2024. She was 72.
Karen was born on July 5, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas to Robert and Sarah Patrick (Winn). She spent her entire childhood in Fort Worth before graduating with a degree in elementary education from Lubbock Christian College in Lubbock, TX, where she met her husband of 50 years, Charles Robert Wilson, who preceded her in death in 2022.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Paul Patrick, and is survived by her three sisters Susan Alcorn, Linda Lopez, and Judy McGee. She is survived by her three children, their spouses, and five grandchildren: Jacob and Tanya Wilson (Nikitenko), and daughter Mila; Chris and Danielle Nusbaum (Wilson), and children Emily and Robert; Benjamin and Abigail Wilson (Felmet), and children Ada and Judah.
Her passion in life was caring for and teaching young children. While her husband Charles served as a minister at Churches of Christ across the country, Karen worked as an elementary and preschool teacher in Tennessee, Arizona, Indiana, and Texas. She owned and operated an independent in-home day care center while living in Indiana for three years, caring for children ranging from birth to fifth grade. At every church they attended, she was a mainstay in the nursery, volunteering to care for the infant children of attending parents as often as possible.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith and serving and caring for others. Her most treasured memories were taking care of her children and grandchildren, and especially preserving those memories by taking large quantities of pictures. Her adult children have all been involved in education at some level in their professional lives and are active members of their respective churches.
