Karl Dolen Obituary

Karl was born in Albany, NY on July 29th, 1953. Karl didn't let much grass grow beneath his feet. Whether he was at work or on vacation he was always on the move. Karl was always in for a dinner out with family. If there was any type of veal on the menu or crème brûlée, he was in.
Family meant everything to Karl. Especially the children in the family. Spending time with his Granddaughter Althea meant the world to him. In addition, spending time with baby Mariana and Soraya was a highlight of his day. Joanie, you were the best friend and sister to Karl. The bond that Joanie and Karl shared is unbreakable. Joanie meant the world to Karl and you took such great care of him, especially when he needed it most.
From upgrading Lake Placid's infrastructure for the upcoming Olympics with Bohl construction as a foreman, to sunning himself on the beaches of St. Martin. Karl would always find himself in the comfort of a new friend. Karl was kind, caring, and always willing to help anyone that needed it. You needed help? Karl could fix it for you.
Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth Dolen, and sister Jane Kinney. He is survived by his daughter Karly (Daniel) Reiser, his granddaughter Althea Reiser, his siblings Robert (Christine) Dolen, Ruth (Ralph) Bader, Eric (Karen) Dolen, Richard Dolen, Joan Stannard (Art Gilroy), his bonus daughters (nieces) Lindsey (Nancy) Franco, Nicole Stannard (Daniel Irwin), Emily Gilroy, Sierra Gilroy) and so many more nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved very much.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Karl's family on Friday June 27,2025 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 N. Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206.
His Funeral Service will follow at 12:30 pm in the funeral home.
The Rite of Committal to follow at Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont, NY.

I hate this. I've known Karl since we rode the same school bus in middle school. He once pissed off the substitute driver, Gus, so bad that he stopped bus #43 in the middle of Unionville hill and threatened to throw him off.
Just played cards with him a couple of months ago. We've been playing cards for decades. I used to tell him he was a good guy and he would growl and say that he wasn't. Like a pineapple, he was rough, even prickly, on the outside but sweet as can be on the inside. Rest in peace, Karl

We were so very sorry to hear of Karl´s passing. He was a true gem with a huge heart, and an endless supply of entertaining stories. His energetic personality and generosity will never be forgotten and we will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. Heartfelt condolences to his family.

It was very moving and humbling for me to be a part of the outpouring of love that was evident at the gathering for Karl. I will never forget all the fun times and how much I learned by just being around him. Really nice really nice to see his little sister Joan after all these years, she is one of the sweetest people I have ever known.

I was saddened to hear of Karls passing. My deepest condolences. I always thought of Karl as one of the cool kids. I seem to remember a pretty fast Mercury Couger back in the 70's. Again, my deepest condolences to your family.
