Karl F. Spatz, 74, of Oakhurst, NJ, passed away on November 13, 2025 in Matawan, NJ. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, spent 14 years in New Hyde Park on Long Island, and lived in Oakhurst with his family since 1999.
Karl worked as an elevator mechanic in NY and NJ as a member of IBEW Local #3, before becoming a NJ state elevator inspector. He was a graduate of Concordia and Wagner, studying history and religion.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Carol (née Bleimeyer) a love story that started in 1971 at Rockaway Beach, NY where he knew then that she would be the love of his life. Also surviving are his three sons and daughters-in-law, Karl & Michelle, Brian & Michelle, Gregory & Brittany, and honorary son Eric Robertson, as well as his favorite people who call him Grandpa (Harrison, Hudson, Nico, Johan, Luca, Aria, & Milo.) He is also survived by his mother-in-law Joyce, sister-in-law Laura and Joe Cassiere, brother-in-law Ronnie Bleimeyer and Leslie Belton, siblings Kenneth and Kathryn, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Edna Spatz, and father-in-law Ronald Bleimeyer.
Karl's daily objective was simple; to brighten the day of as many people as possible. His goal was to make EVERY person he interacted with laugh or smile. Karl was often described as "one of a kind," a true talker, trading stories with anyone and everyone in his path. He was a lover of hugs, and they will be missed.
He was a man of faith and he needed to be as a lifelong Mets fan. He was an avid lover of the beach, being tan, and Moose. Affectionately known as Big Guy, he was always first in line to volunteer coach baseball, soccer, and roller hockey where his encouraging approach and positivity remains a strong memory for many to this day.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 17, 2025 from 2:00pm - 6:00pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral prayers will be offered at 5:00 pm.
