Karl Edward Sundell passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. The son of Karl and Ruth Sundell, he was born in Taylor County, Iowa on June 8, 1938. Karl was a graduate of Lenox, Iowa High School and Northwest Missouri State College where he obtained a degree in accounting and finance. It was there that he met his wife of 63 years, Joyce. After working as an auditor for the USDA and Swift and Co, Karl embarked on a 30-year career with Boehringer Ingelheim, retiring as director of finance.

Karl possessed a deep passion for his family. As his boys were growing up he coached numerous youth baseball and basketball teams. He rarely missed a school game or event and was in attendance at innumerable activities for grandchildren. He served his community as treasurer for the founding board of Habitat for Humanity as well as serving as treasurer for the Open Door Food kitchen board. As a member of the Lions Club he delivered Meals on Wheels and transported cornea transplants. For over 50 years he was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church where he served in various positions. Karl thoroughly enjoyed a round of golf and a good travel adventure. He was an accomplished woodcarver and gifted others with his handcrafted furniture.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents and sister Beverly. Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Nold); sons Robert (Korena) and Philip (Kirsten); 4 grandchildren, Jalen, Serena, Jane and Ben and great granddaughter, Sydney; and sister, Vada Calhoon.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 11, Ashland United Methodist Church. The family will gather with friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to The Open Door Food Kitchen. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
