Karla Ann (Sailer) Hamann, daughter of Leonard and Mary (Grote) Sailer, was born on September 30, 1963, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, IA. Karla was raised in Carroll until her family moved to a farm northeast of Manning, IA in 1971. Karla attended college at Des Moines Area Community College and graduated with her associate’s degree in business. Out of college, Karla excelled in taking poor performing retail locations and turning them into flagship businesses.
On February 17, 1989, Karla married James Hamann in Lubbock, TX. The couple moved from Lubbock to Littleton, CO before moving back to Karla’s home in Manning, IA. In 2001, they moved to Calhoun, GA where they settled and raised their family. Karla was a loving and devoted stay-at-home mother to her children for many years. While nurturing and raising her children, she instilled in them a love for family and a strong work ethic.
Karla was a talented artist and enjoyed woodworking and cross-stitching, among other crafts. She was passionate about her family in Georgia, Iowa, and Colorado and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
On June 25, 2025, Karla passed away at her home at the age of 61.
Karla was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Kreg Sailer and Kurt Sailer. She is survived by her husband, James Hamann of Calhoun, GA; sons: Daniel (Meghan) Hamann, Charlie (Chelsea) Hamann; daughters: Melanie (Adam) Pruett, Sydney (Ryan) Ball, and Ryann Hamann (Logan Queen); 4 grandchildren: Emi Hamann, Ember Hamann, Clark Ball, and Rowdy Pruett; brother: Kevin (JoDee) Sailer; sisters: Kim (Scott) Barnard and Kris (Dave) Weitl; sisters-in-law: Jill Sailer and Kim Sailer; and by other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa, at a later date.
