Obituary
Kasan Edwards' smile would make a room light up. His smile would bring you so much peace. His smile was his super power.
Kasan's life began in Orangeburg, SC on September 26, 2001. His mother, Dorotheia Boyd, and his father, Roger Edwards, have three children born on the exact same day - just nine years apart. Kianshe Edwards, his twin sister and BreAnshe Edwards, his oldest sister. He also leaves behind half siblings, Brandon Edwards, Roger Edwards, Jr., and Patriece Edwards.
While attending Fort Dorchester High School, his presence was infatuating. Whether it be because he was making the entire school laugh on gender-swap day or giving a fellow teammate some encouraging words before Friday Night Lights, Kasan's aura was infectious.
Football season, or Kasan's season - whatever we are calling it, was serious business. For anything football, his eyes would light up. People were so amazed at the level of knowledge he had for the game. Kasan pushed himself and his teammates. Kasan was a "shutdown cornerback." In true Kasan fashion, he advanced as an 8th grader to the high school football team at Fort Dorchester High School. Kasan was committed to his love of football on and off the field. Kasan helped nurture and build Fort Dorchester's football program to the premier program it is today.
Kasan off the field and on the field, it was hard to tell the difference. He had that same level of passion for his family and friends.
Whether it was teaching his little cousins, Zaylen Clayton and Jayden Payne about football and being disciplined in anything they do. Nevertheless, he always had to run errands for Grandmother, Mary Payne, and aunt Sha'Monique Payne.
Kasan was always curious and inquisitive. His keen intellect drove all his pursuits. Whatever he did, he was all in.
His canine companion. His best friend and son, Kane Edwards. They have a bond like no other. The loyalty between the two was unmatched.
Kasan loved his parents. His mom, Dorotheia, could do no wrong in his eyes. A true mama's boy that loved her to the moon and back. Like father, like son. Kasan and his dad are not talkers, they're doers. That's what they did for each other - they got it done.
A birthday isn't the only thing he shared with his sisters. They all share the same stubbornness and hard work ethic and love for their parents. His older sister, BreAnshe, fondly remembers him for his profound ability to uplift everyone's spirits with his infectious laugh. His twin sister, Kianshe, remembers him for the times that they'd shared from the womb and how protective he was over her, ready to bulldoze anyone that bothered her in any way.
Kasan was very strong willed and stubborn at times. He also had an enormous heart, jumping at any chance to help someone all while denying help for himself.
He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and cleverness. He was filled to the brim with knowledge. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each and every one of them and they knew it.
He will also be remembered for the love he shared for Olivia Gaston, who loved him unconditionally.
When his time came, he carried himself full of love for those who currently love and the ones who went before him. He will be missed dearly.
Kasan, we all love you so much.

To the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I met Kasan his senior year of high school when I was recruiting him to come play football at St. Andrews University. Once he arrived on campus Kasan showed nothing but the drive to learn and help the team anyway he could. I watched him handle tough situations in his life and not allow them to affect whatever task at hand he was working on. I watched him make tough decisions that required him to sacrifice and he did it with a positive and selfless effort. Kasan was the kid every coach wants apart of their team! Love and prayers to the Edwards family and friends.
