Katherine Josephine Applegate

Katherine Josephine Applegate, 67, passed away November 25, 2023, on the feast of St Catherine.
She was born January 27, 1956, in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Henry and Pauline Schmuck Applegate. She was a Catholic. She attended Christ the King School and Southside High School. Katherine graduated from Westark College as a registered nurse. She went on to attend Texas Women's College, graduating with a degree in Medical Records. She had advanced certifications in Quality Assurance and Risk Management for healthcare. She worked in this capacity at Waldron Hospital, Mercy Fort Smith, and Baptist Fort Smith.
Katherine was a Master Gardener and a member of Belle Point Quilters Guild. She especially enjoyed attending Star Trek Conventions. The absolute loves of her life were her pets, especially her black Labradors. She had a special devotion to St Francis, the patron saint of animals. Her parents and cousin Keith Kilbourn preceded her in death. She is survived by many cousins including Gail Bradney, Brian and Kevin Kilbourn, and the Riser and Schenk families. Katherine had many loving and lifelong friends who cherish her memory including Dr. Laura Moore-Farrell, Kay Voss, Debbie Toon, and Deona Lollis. The Nurses Honor Guard of the River Valley will provide a tribute.
Memorial Graveside Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
