Katherine (Katie) Preston Green Dodd, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at her home in Ormond Beach, Florida. She was born on June 25, 1939 in La Grange, Michigan. A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, Katie enjoyed an active and fulfilling life.

Katie spent most of her early life in Michigan with her father, Lester Preston, who was employed by the automobile industry and her mother Jeanne Preston. On a bit of a whim, after recently earning her college AA degree in Marketing, Katie traveled to Daytona Beach in 1960 to work a summer job and have some fun with a very good friend. She never returned to Michigan. In July of 1960 she met her first husband, Alfred A. Green, Jr. They were married the following year, in April 1961.

Katie was a very involved citizen of the great Daytona Beach community. During her life she was an active member of many local organizations such as the Daytona Rotary club, and the Halifax Garden Club of America, where she served as a past president and was a 50-year alumni. She also supported many local institutions such as the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts & Sciences. One of her biggest community commitments was her multi-decade charitable support of the Westside Elementary school in Daytona. She donated thousands of her personal hours, raising funds and arranging for improvements to be made at the school to support the children who attended.

Katie and Alfred loved to travel, always taking trips with their children and later when they were empty nesters. Some of Katie's happiest times were their trips to Europe. In the 1980s this became an annual event. Katie and her family also loved driving every summer to see family in Virginia. They had a great time visiting with Alfred's brother Braxton, sister Agnes and their families. Our families have remained close long after Alfred's death in 1992.

Katie also took pride in her business career. From 1978 to 1994 she worked as a sales manager at Casa Granada lady's clothing store in Ormond Beach. She then had a career in Sales & Marketing for Oceans Eleven Resorts and the Staed family from 1993 to 2009, when she retired as Key Accounts Manager. Several years after the passing of Alfred, Katie met Dr. Richard Dodd, a recent widower, and the two quickly became inseparable and were married in 2003 joining the Green and the Dodd families. Katie and Dick continued to indulge in Katie's penchant for travel, as well as her community work and career until her retirement from the Oceans Eleven.

If you knew Katie, and her dearest friends will confirm, you knew she was fun loving, always ready for a good time, ready to travel, eager to shop, up for a curry chicken salad run, and having time for a diet coke or glass of chardonnay depending on the time of day. Katie loved to laugh & talk about family, and life in general. For 15 years she and a group of local lady friends met every Saturday night for dinner at Ocean side Country Club to catch up on the latest news and to share life's good times. Katie was always ready to "carry on".

Katie is predeceased by her husbands Alfred A. Green Jr. ESQ (1992) and Dr. Richard Dodd, MD, (2014). She is survived by her children, Gary Green and Jeff Green; two daughters-in-law, Shannon Green and Hong Bennett; two grandchildren, Tyler and Connor Green; and her extended family. A public Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 4th, 2025 at St. James Episcopalian Church, 44 S Halifax Dr, Ormond Beach, FL 32176. The service will be live streamed via a link from the St. James church website.
