KATHERINE “KATHY” B. LANGFORD, 72

Katherine “Kathy” B. Langford passed away on November 16th, 2025. 

She was born February 9th, 1953, in Gary, Indiana, to James (Bob) Brown and Elizabeth Brown (Mann) and was the eldest of their four children. She had resided in Lakeland since 1964 having previously resided in Hammond, Indiana and Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

Kathy received her Bachelor’s in Humanities and Art History and Master’s degree in Humanities from Florida State University and devoted more than four decades of her life to education.  Returning to her high school alma mater, she taught at Lakeland High School for two years and at Mulberry High School for forty years, earning Teacher of the Year honors nine times. Her influence spanned generations, touching the lives of thousands of students. She was a talented artist and poet, a dedicated reader, and a devoted lover of animals, adopting many dogs and cats from the SPCA and other animal rescues during her life. Kathy is survived by her husband of 45 years, Wayne; her son, Leif (Rachel); and her brother, Doug (Phyllis). Kathy is preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Brown (Mann), father James (Bob) Brown, brother Grant and brother David.

A memorial service will be determined at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA.
