Katherine Keleher Simms (Kathie)



Katherine Keleher Simms (Kathie), age 68, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, went home to the Lord in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 17, 2021. She died peacefully at her residence of many years. Kathie was born on November 5, 1952. She was preceded in death by her previous husband, Tom (Thomas); her mother, Virginia Keleher (Hillsman); and her father, Timothy B. Keleher. Also, preceding her passing was her brother, Timothy Patrick Keleher; her sister, Karen Ann Keleher (Pruitt) and Karen's husband, Gerald Pruitt. Kathie was also preceded in death by her grandfather, Ralph J. Keleher; and her grandmother, by marriage Euna Keleher with whom Kathie was very close.

Kathie is survived by her brother, Kevin Keleher spouse (Linda), and her nephew, Timothy Pruitt. Kathie also leaves behind Becky Boyd, a longtime family friend; and also, her longtime partner of 18 years, Pat Candelaria. Kathie also leaves behind a large extended family who have been a blessing to her. Also, not to forget all of Kathie's fury animal friends that she loved so much. A thank you to all of the above for your unconditional love and help.

In addition to Kathie's family and friends mentioned above, Kathie would want to thank all the personal care givers that helped her over the years and most recently a new care giver named "Ginger".

Kathie attended school as a child in Albuquerque and as a teenager. She lived in Albuquerque most of her life. She was a colorful person with a generous and distinctive laugh which was seasoned with a great sense of humor and a generous heart. She loved cooking and worked as a professional cook and caterer for many years. Early in Kathie's life she was an avid swimmer and loved sports. In her later years due to a back injury and ill health she was home bound and was unable to get out for errands without assistance. Kathie used to send her "thank you notes" by snail mail which is a lost art today. The recipients enjoyed these special cards handwritten with a personal note. She will be missed.

A memorial gathering will not take place at this time. Kathie's family has honored her wishes for cremation. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Albuquerque Animal Shelter.
