Miss Katherine M. State, of 18 Squires St., Cortland, N.Y. passed away at her home on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the age of 83. Born, February 18, 1930 in Cortland, Katherine was the daughter of John W. and Katherine T. Reardon State and was a Cortland resident her entire life. Katherine was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary's Parochial High School and a 1950 graduate of S.U.N.Y. Cortland. She was formerly employed by the Cortland County Social Services Department and was then employed for many years as a counselor with the New York State Employment office before her retirement. Katherine was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and a member of St. Mary's Parochial School Alumni Association. Additionally, Katherine was a board member for Volunteer Family Counseling Service from 1970-1986. Survivors include; her brother, John W. (Helen) State Jr., of Cortland, 2 nieces, Mary Beth (Kevin) Conlon and Sally Ann (Dan) Stehm both of Cortland and a nephew, John W. (Ruth) State III, also of Cortland., great nieces and nephews, Chrissie, Tom, Michael, John, Liam, Mary Kate and Ellen Conlon. Aidan and Owen Stehm, Gabriella State, Celeste Florian and dear friends and care givers, Carmen Juarez and Brenda Florian and cousins, Rev. Thomas Kiernan of Cortland, Patrick Kiernan of Homer and Jean Kiernan of Auburn. In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by cousins, Joseph and Margaret Kiernan, Robert Kiernan, William and Theresa Kiernan, and Katherine and Josephine Kiernan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Lucian Urbaniak serving as celebrant. There are no calling hours. Burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery will be at the convenience of family. Arrangements are under the direction of Riccardi Funeral Home 69 N. Main St.,Cortland, N.Y. Www.riccardifuneralhome.com
