Katherine Girves Stiliaras

Katherine Girves Stiliaras passed away peacefully October 27, 2021, at the age of 102.
Katherine was born in Akron on January 20, 1919, the second of four children of Greek immigrants Panteles Girves and Kaliope Mehalarou, and she spent her entire life in the Akron community.
A member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church since her birth, Katherine worked for many years as the office manager for the Girves Brown Derby restaurants. After years devoted to her late husband John as his caretaker and at a time when she was approaching what would have been retirement age for most people, Katherine went to work at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She was a familiar face at the church, not only at Sunday services but while working in the community center for weddings, other events, and at Gyro Thursdays.
Katherine was preceded by her parents; husband, John Stiliaras; brothers, Gus (Lela) Girves and Ted (Paulina) Girves and sister, Mary (Robert) Konstand. She is survived by her son, Russell Stiliaras and beloved granddaughter, Sophia Phillips (Kate Adams); nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends.
Katherine was a true gentlewoman. She will be missed by many for her sensitive and peaceful constancy; an unflagging energy, tireless work ethic; her boundless love of family and friends; and her proud devotion to the Greek community, its heritage and her church family.
Services will be Wednesday, November 3, at 1 p.m., at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, OH 44304 with Fr. Jerry Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow at Mt. Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund at Church.
