Mrs. Kathleen Crenwelge, nee Geistweidt, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24 at the age of 90, at Methodist Hospital in
Fredericksburg, TX. Kathleen was born in
Fredericksburg, TX on May 21, 1935, to Edgar and Elenora Geistweidt.
Kathleen married Dayton P. Crenwelge on June 6, 1954, with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in May of 2004. They have two children who both reside in Fredericksburg. Dennis Crenwelge and wife Brenda and Terri Immel and husband Russell.
Kathleen is survived by her two children and one sister, Karen Spaeth, who resides in Manhattan, Kansas.
Kathleen is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Leah Ottmers of Fredericksburg; Kristi and Adam Creath of Fredericksburg; Kara and Phillip Staats of Fredericksburg; Jay and Kasey Immel of Mason. And 6 great grandchildren: Rylee and Jordyn Ottmers; Emma Creath; Reid and Bryson Immel and Lincoln Staats.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Nelson Geistweidt, sister-in-law Evelyn Geistweidt, brother-in-law Clifford Speath and great grandchild Addison Staats.
Kathleen spent her early years growing up in
Doss, TX on their family homestead. She was the only first grader in her class at the Onion Creek one room schoolhouse, where she rode her horse to school. During her second grade through eighth grade years, she attended the school in
Doss, TX where she had some of her best memories of the good ole days and made lifelong friendships. She loved being in the outdoors ranching and hunting but also loved helping in the kitchen, learning to sew and garden. Kathleen graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1953.
Kathleen and Dayton settled in Fredericksburg to raise their two children. She worked at the local lumberyard in Fredericksburg as their Bookkeeper for 40 years until she retired in July of 1994. For many years she also owned and operated one of Fredericksburg's true B&B's, providing a farm breakfast and fresh baked goods.
During Kathleen and Dayton's retirement years, they enjoyed their time together watching their grandkid's sporting events and school programs. They'd also spend time with their family, hunting and ranching, at their property in Mason County.
Kathleen was a member of the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and Bear Creek Shooting Club. She was a volunteer at the Doss Community Fish Fry and most recently participated in an interview for the Doss School history preservation.
Kathleen was known by her family for always hosting all the family events; she built a close family full of love who will keep her spirit alive. She loved sitting on her back porch visiting with her neighbors and friends. She found joy in crocheting, knitting, reading and gardening.
Kathleen was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, neighbor and member of her Fredericksburg and Doss community. Her family finds comfort in knowing she lived a full and beautiful life, and her memory will be treasured forever.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 31 beginning at 9:30am at the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, followed by the Funeral Services at 11am. Graveside services were held immediately following at the Doss Cemetery.
