Kathleen Gayle Smith Barefoot Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 17, 2025.
The devoted wife and lifelong love of Ken Barefoot for 60 years, Kathi entered the presence of the true love of her life, her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while resting peacefully in the earthly arms of her husband and surrounded by her family.
Kathi poured her heart into her family. She is survived by her beloved children, each of whom she cherished deeply: Kenny Jr. and Lisa Barefoot; Jason and Buffy Barefoot; Jenifer and Wayne Hixenbaugh; and Kati and Jeffrey Robins.
She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy: Jackson and AllieRose-children of Kenny Jr. and Lisa; Aaron and GeorgiaMae-children of Jason and Buffy; KenaRae, Kole, and LaurelGrace-children of Jenifer and Wayne; and Charley and MaggieLane-children of Kati and Jeffrey. This year, Jackson and his wife Katie welcomed her first great-granddaughter, sweet Miss LizzieMay, born in August.
Her love extended far beyond her immediate family. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, each one held close in her heart. Her sisters Lane Kane, Karen Smith, Susan Barefoot, Beth Barefoot, and Debbie Barefoot, and her brothers Mike and Jim Barefoot brought joy, connection, and lifelong companionship.
Kathi is preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Charles Smith, and Thelma and Jasper Barefoot, along with her dear brother Bill Smith-all of whom she longed to reunite with in glory.
Kathi's passion for children led her to establish Barefoot Kids in 1993 alongside her daughter. What began as a small Christian early-childhood school has, over the past thirty-two years, touched the lives of nearly 3,000 children and their families.
Her influence on countless lives has been both remarkable and enduring. Kathi's deepest hope and constant prayer was for every person-child and adult alike-to know God intimately and experience His love. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any gifts be directed to the Barefoot Kids new building fund, which will help continue her legacy of teaching children about the love of Jesus Christ through knowing His Word.
A private service will be scheduled at a later date.
