Kathleen Gussie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tohle Funeral Home on Dec. 5, 2025.
Kathleen Ann Gussie nee McLoughlin

It is with profound love and great sadness that we announce the death of Kathleen Gussie. She returned to God on the morning of December 3, 2025, at the age of 76.

Kathleen was born April 24, 1949 to Richard and Henrietta McLoughlin in Chicago, Illinois. She was the eldest of 5 and is survived by her sister Colleen and brothers Robert, Matthew, and Jeffrey. Together with her husband Wayne of 56 years, they created an incredible family of 3 children - Karen, Ericka, and Tom (Dina), 7 grandchildren – Christina (Michael), Daniel (Christine), Alyssa (Grant), Sonja, Christian, Caleb, and Brooklyn, and 6 great-grandchildren – Danny, Presley, Levi, Miles, Anthony, and Skylar.

Kathy was a lifelong photographer and took great joy in capturing moments small and large in the lives of those nearest and dearest to her, as well as recording the antics of the local deer and other wildlife she met on the many family road trips she cherished so much.

Kathy put her heart and soul into her family and community – particularly at St. Edward's Church and School where she was an Usher, eucharistic minister, taught catechism, started the PE program, and relished her time with the Youth program. She was also an avid fan of whichever sports team her children and grandchildren played for, known as Grandma Gussie by her grandchildrens' teammates. A strong woman, she was always looking for the good in everyone – from complete strangers to the many refs and umps she felt could do better.

Kathy will be lying in state a half hour before her Funeral Mass which will be held December 10th, 10:30 AM at St. Edward Church 4350 W. Sunnyside Chicago, IL 60630.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Edward's Church Youth Group at https://www.givecentral.org/location/347/event/45162 or by check to St. Edward Church at 4350 W. Sunnyside, Chicago, IL 60630.

Kathy was the touchstone of our family and though profoundly missed was firm in her belief that we will be reunited with her and God in Heaven. Until then we know she is watching over us and lives through us as we continue our lives guided by her example of love and faith.
