Kathleen L. Johnson age 89 of Detroit Lakes, MN died October 2, 2023 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Kathleen Lois Johnson was born January 18, 1934 in Madelia, MN to Clifford and Verona (Urban) Sparks. She grew up and received her education in that area, graduating from Truman High School in 1951. It was in that same year that she was united in marriage to Stanley Hennis, in Lewisville, MN. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Fairmont, MN, where they had their four children. In 1968 they moved to Detroit Lakes. Kathy worked for Star Electric and later at the Detroit State Bank. She and Stanley divorced in 1976. She married Orville Johnson in 1979. Over the years they enjoyed summers on Long Lake in Detroit Lakes, and winters in Mesa, AZ.
Kathy loved entertaining, traveling, flower gardening, and playing cards and games.
She is survived by one son, David (Terrie) Hennis, of Detroit Lakes, MN; two daughters, Cindy (Dave) Olmscheid, of Surprise, AZ; and Nancy (James) Vareberg, of Walker, MN; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one brother, Dennis (Karin) Sparks, of TX; and one son in law, Tim Hagen, of Rathdrum, ID.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Johnson; and one daughter, Jane Hagen.
Memorial Services will be on Friday October 6, 2023; 1:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be from 12 noon – 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
