Kathleen Smith Reid was born on September 3, 1936. She was born in Charlotte, N.C. to the late Calvin and Macie Smith. She was married to the late Frank Reid Sr. and from that union came seven children. Peacefully, on October 31, 2025, Kathleen departed this life to enter eternal rest.
Kathleen was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She displayed her love by cooking and feeding her family and others. Kathleen was known for her chicken dumplings, pound cakes, and sweet potato pies. She was a faithful watcher of her daily soap operas, news shows and a fan of the Carolina Panthers. It was her morning routine to drink two cups of steaming hot coffee.
Her educational background was completed at Plato Price High School. Upon completion she had several jobs. Thirty-two years of her career was spent managing the kitchen at Price’s Chicken Coop. She was a member of Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church where she completed her mission through her generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Macie Smith. Her sisters: Annie Lee Grier, Essie McLain, Georgiana Sloan and Connie Mae Grier. Her brothers Melvin Smith, Graham Smith, Calvin Smith Jr., William Smith, a loving niece Devoraline Ardrey and granddaughter, Na’Tasia Reid.
She will forever be cherished by her children: Cathy Mance, Connie Stowe, Herlene Reid, Frank Reid Jr. (Jackie), James Reid (Valerie), Kenneth Reid (Janie), and Tammy Reid: two brothers: Charles Smith and George Smith. Her twenty grandchildren, forty-five greatgrandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief her love will forever remain in our hearts.
His Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
-Matthew 25:23
