Kathryn Barker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Amos Carvelli Funeral Home on Dec. 11, 2025.
Kathryn Barker, 92, of Bridgeport, WV, passed through the pearly gates of Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. She was at home, with her daughter by her side, when she went to sleep and woke up in Glory.

She was born in Pikeville, KY, on August 14, 1933, a daughter of the late Columbus Prater and Nora Green Prater.

Kathryn is survived by one daughter, Robin Barker Godfrey of Clarksburg; one son, John Wesley Barker and wife Julie of the Philippines; six grandchildren, Heidi Moore of Clarksburg, Ronald Godfrey II and wife Nicole of Salem, Andy Barker of Mannington, Cynthia Clutter and husband Daniel of Bridgeport, Kathy Buckhannon and husband Tommy of Clarksburg, and John S. Barker of FL; 11 great grandchildren, Alisia Swiger and husband Jake, Grace, Ava, and Amelia Godfrey, Hannah and Colt Barker, Mitchell Clutter, Ashley and Haley Bynum, Aiden Buckhannon, Joshua and Joyce of the Philippines; four great great grandchildren, Caydon, Cayson, Nila, Grayson, and baby Cecilia Jo on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Virgil Wesley Barker; four brothers, Roe, Hooper, Luther and Bill; three sisters, Lurlie, Nancy, and Opal; one son, David Virgil Barker; and her son-in-law, Ronald Lynn Godfrey.

Kathryn spent most of her childhood in Newcomerstown, Ohio before moving to West Virginia.

She was formerly employed by Seton Nursing Home, Golden Circle Nursing Home, and Harmony Valley Retirement Community. She spent most of her life caring for others. After retiring, she continued to care for her son David until his passing in June.

She was a devout Christian and was proud to be a member of the Clarksburg Church of God. She attended church regularly and always prayed for the safety and well-being of her family. Her family meant everything to her. She held many holiday gatherings and always wanted her family to be with her. She loved to cook. Her specialty was homemade biscuits and gravy. She loved her flowers and could grow anything. She also appreciated her neighbor, Jackie, for her many acts of kindness.

Kathryn was a loving mother and grandmother and dearly loved her cats, "Blue" and "Johnny Cat".
