Kathryn (Majtan) Barone
Little Falls, New York
LITTLE FALLS, NY - It is with great sadness that Angela Cassia (Joseph) and Karla Barone, announce the passing of their beloved mother, Kathryn "Kathy" Elizabeth (Majtan) Barone, age 69, a lifelong Little Falls resident. Her unexpected passing occurred on Sunday, February 27, 2022 peacefully in the comfort of her own home.
Kathy was born on February 16, 1953, in Little Falls, to the late John and Christine (Sadlon) Majtan and graduated with the Little Falls High School, "Class of 1971." She then went on to receive her Associate's Degree from Mohawk Valley Community College.
Kathy was united in marriage with the late Gary Barone on July 26, 1980 at St. Joseph's Church, Little Falls, a devoted and loving union of 39 years before Gary's passing in March of 2020. In all, they spent 53 years of their
lives together. They were high school sweethearts and the loves of each other's lives.
A well-known figure in the community, Kathy was everyone's favorite local banker. An incredibly hard worker throughout her 40+ year career, she was employed with Herkimer County Trust, M&T Bank and most recently, Adirondack Bank before retiring in 2019. While employed, she was actively involved in Little Falls Community Chest, Little Falls WCA, Little Falls Beautification Committee, American Cancer Society and several others.
She had an uncanny ability to excel at everything she did, including playing the piano and being a talented artist. In her spare time she loved to draw and her work is forever captured in her beautiful sketchbooks. But her greatest accomplishment was her family.
Kathy's true purpose and passion was being a devoted wife and mother. She was always warm, gentle and made everyone feel loved. Kathy was happiest spending time with her husband, girls and extended family, and she especially enjoyed cooking and baking as a way to show her unconditional love. She was a selfless, caring person who always put other's needs before her own and made sure everyone was happy and taken care of. Kathy was more than a mother, she was also an incredible friend, always available to listen and give great advice on just about everything-and yes, she was always right. Her absence will leave a huge hole in the lives of everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
Survivors include her loving and cherished family: her adored girls, Angela Cassia and husband, Joseph, of Ballston Lake, NY and Karla Barone and fiancé Corey Sudhalter, of Manhattan; a close brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Nilsa Barone, of Utica, NY; special nieces and nephews, Nicholas Barone, Nicole (Ken) Powers, Michael Barone and Gina (Matt) Ptak; her lifelong best friend, Sandy Baum Haberek; along with many other cousins and extended family members. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Majtan (Sadlon), her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Lena Barone (Raiello) and her great nephew, Maximus Ptak.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Bob and Donna Daniels, Kathy's neighbors for over 35 years. Their kindness and companionship has been without measure.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Mohawk Valley Funerals and Cremations, 7507 State Route 5 (corner of Bidleman Road), Little Falls, 315-508-5131 on Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 12-2pm with a brief service to follow at 2 pm, also on Saturday. You are welcome to wear a mask. A private service burial service will take place at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Gary.
