Kathryn "Kathy" Lynn Humphrey Epperley, born on January 23, 1952, in the town of Pax, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025, in
Hendersonville, North Carolina. At the age of 73, Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service that touched countless lives.
A proud alumna of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV, where she graduated in 1969, Kathy was known for her unyielding spirit and commitment to making a difference in her community. She carried these traits forward into her career, serving as a 411 Operator for Verizon for over two decades. After her retirement, Kathy enjoyed working in In-Home Health Care and at an assisted living facility.
Kathy's life was further enriched by her memberships in Beta sigma Phi Sorority, the Beckley Shag Club, the Red Hat Society, and the Women of the Moose (Lodge 1606) in Beckley, WV. These organizations allowed her to form deep bonds of friendship and fellowship, bringing joy and laughter to all who knew her. Kathy loved dancing, music, and being with family and friends. One could describe her as a woman who could light up a room with her smile and one who never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jimmy Humphrey and Leona Shamblin Humphrey, whose values and teachings she carried with her throughout her life. Her legacy continues through her loving family: her devoted daughters, Jennifer Epperley and Kati Thompson and son-in-law, Dave Thompson; her cherished granddaughter, Brooke Thompson; her brothers, Jimmy Humphrey and his wife, Carol and Randall Humphrey and his wife Terry; and her nieces and nephews, Jason Humphrey and his wife, Amber, Christine Kinder, Josh Humphrey, Ryan Humphrey and his wife, Brandi, Zach Humphrey and his wife, Natalie, and Morgan Humphrey, as well as her great-nieces and great-nephews, Cailyn, Phineas, Kynzlie, Emerson, and Oaklie; and countless other family members, in-laws, and friends. Each of them carries a piece of Kathy's spirit and strength in their hearts.
A Celebration of Kathy's Life will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, March 23, 2025, in the Chapel of Melton Mortuary in Beckley, WV, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and the indelible impact she made on so many.
