Robert Fairchild Heltman, a dedicated family man and accomplished professional, passed away on March 4, 2026, in
Hendersonville, North Carolina. Born on May 11, 1934, in
Lakewood, Ohio, he was 91 years old at the time of his passing.
Robert's journey through life was marked by a series of notable achievements and a deep devotion to his family. After graduating from Lakewood High School, he pursued higher education at Oberlin College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration.
In 1956, Robert joined the United States Air Force, serving as a pilot and training officer until 1959. His time in the Air Force instilled in him values of discipline and dedication, which he carried forward into his professional life.
In 1960, Robert embarked on a distinguished career with General Electric, where he excelled in marketing, field sales, and professional relations. His tenure culminated as a program manager at GE's corporate headquarters in Fairfield, Connecticut, a role he held until 1987.
That same year, Robert founded Leading Edge Products & Services, Inc., where he served as CEO. The company represented inventors and product developers, allowing Robert to combine his business acumen with his passion for innovation. Among his own inventions was the Ultimate Hiking Staff, a testament to his creative craftsmanship.
Known for his sense of humor, loyalty, and commitment, Robert was a loving father and husband who cherished his family above all. He was father to five children from a previous marriage: Kenneth, Kathryn, Kimberly, Karen, and Kerri. In 1991, he married Melody Jenkins, expanding their family with Melody's three children-Daniel, David, and Summer. Together, they enjoyed a blended family of eight children, 18 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Robert will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, his contributions to the field of business, and his unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and an enduring impact on all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at three o'clock at Crab Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service.
