Hugo Alberto Tettamanti Jr.

Proud of his Argentine heritage, Michigan Football fanatic, and lifelong Dungeon Master to his closest friends: that was Hugo. Born Feburary 22, 1968, in Cordoba, Argentina, Hugo Alberto Tettamanti Jr. carried a lifelong obsession with the national soccer team that was only rivaled by his devotion to the University of Michigan.

An unbelievably intelligent scholar, Hugo graduated from Forsyth Country Day School and studied English and History at Oberlin College before conquering the University of Michigan School of Law. His brilliance was rooted in a deep bond with his father; the two of them spent countless hours together immersed in the history of World War II. Hugo was a powerhouse of knowledge; whether it was a fine point of law or an obscure historical fact, he loved a spirited debate with his friends.

To his inner circle, he was the ultimate Dungeon Master. From childhood through adulthood, he adored the world of Dungeons and Dragons and the chance to gather around the table with his friends. It was one of his favorite ways to spend time with the people he loved, weaving stories and rolling dice through decades of shared adventures.

Whether he was immersed in his books, out on his bike enjoying the fresh air, or on a perpetual, noble quest for the world’s greatest Italian sandwich, Hugo lived for the things that fueled his mind and spirit.

In the end, he was a gladiator who fought through some incredibly tough times with elegance and strength, always coming out on top. But this time, he simply needed to rest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Drs. Hugo and Antonia Tettamanti, and is survived by his brothers, Martin and Eugene, and his extended family in Argentina, with whom he shared a lifelong bond. His legacy is carried on by his best friends and partners in crime, a legendary group of friends — “The Guy’s List.”

Hugo remains forever in the heart of his love of almost 25 years, Lori Snyder. A striking pair, they built a beautiful life and home together, teaching and learning from one another and making each other’s lives whole. She remained his constant companion and his North Star.

On the night of February 25, 2026, enveloped in the comfort of Lori’s voice and the familiar lyrics of “Brandy,” Hugo found his home with God. Those who knew and love Hugo know that he’s finally found that perfect sandwich shop — one with a great view of the pitch, a 50-yard line seat for the Wolverines, and a library that never ends. He is at peace now, and his story lives on in all of us.

Lori would like to thank Jim and Lynn Snyder, Lee Cash, Tim Vaughn, David Andler, Eugene Tettamanti, and Abby Langston, all of whom supported Hugo with kindness and compassion during his final journey. A special special thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Alexander, Dr. Thomas Lycan, Dr. Bart Frizzell and Dr Jessica Meister Berger for their tremendous care. Lori would also like to thank the team at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, especially Helen, Jennifer B., and Sophia.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am, on Friday, March 20, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Winston Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Hugo Tettamanti Jr. to the Sierra Club or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
