On March 2nd, in the year of our Lord, 1935, a very special lady was born (near Coon Rapids, Iowa) Kathryn Ann Kunce.
She was the second born out of eight siblings born to Myron Kunce and loving mother Irene (Stewart), (siblings, Ray, Kathryn, Jerry, Donna, Ron, Susan, Marv, and Linda). Those siblings formed a bond that would last a lifetime. Through thick and thin they were bound by honor and love. A love most will never know.
After graduating from Scranton High School in May of 1954, she set out to make her own family. Kenneth Lee Hegwood and Kathryn Ann, wed on May 22, 1954, the day after she graduated. In the years to come, between work, family and everyday living they created five beautiful children, Sherry, Teresa, Kim, Brett, and Kevin.
She was a very proficient bookkeeper and made a career out of that, retiring from Greene County Medical Center after decades of service.
She never shied away from a hard day's work and if she didn't have a project going, she would help you with yours!!!
Her house was always filled with love, the sound of music, and smells of whatever she was cooking. And the doors were always open!! (Especially for Cindy, Chuck, and Jessie). She loved the outdoors, and all types of wildlife. In later years she channeled that love into artwork, drawing and painting birds and other things that took her fancy.
She was the essence of love and kindness!!!
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her mother and father, brother Ray, sister Donna, her oldest daughter Sheryl Ann, and loving son Brett Lee. And without a doubt she was greeted by them and many others she cherished on September 14th, when the Lord called her home.
She is survived by her children: Teresa (David) Dumdei, Kim (Joe) Ramaekers, and Kevin (Deanna) Hegwood, and all the children they created. (lots of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, if I mentioned them all it would be another two pages). Also, her brothers: Jerry, Ron, and Marv, and sisters: Susan and Linda. And if you take the time to get to know any one of them, you will see the love and kindness that radiated from her!!!
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson, followed by a graveside service at Paton Township Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the Shriver Community Center in Paton, Iowa. All are welcome.
