Kathryn Fazio Obituary

KATHRYN (KATHY) LYNN DUNBAR FAZIO
May 23, 1967 ˜ October 26, 2023

Kathryn Lynn Dunbar Fazio was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, teacher, and friend. Kathryn Lynn Dunbar was born on May 23, 1967, in Seattle, WA, to Ernest and Virginia Dunbar. Kathy grew up alongside her older sister Kris. She always loved school and was a lifelong learner. Kathy graduated from Lake Washington High School in 1985, and was a member of the school’s gymnastics team. She went on to attend Washington State University, where she studied education and joined Alpha Gamma Delta, the same sorority as her mom and sister. She graduated from WSU in 1990, and began teaching first grade at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Vancouver, WA. Kathy taught at Lourdes for almost 30 years, and had the ability to make each student feel special. Kathy met Marc while teaching at Lourdes, and in May 1994, Marc proposed to Kathy in her classroom. The two married on Nov. 26, 1994, at St. James in Vancouver. Although Kathy loved teaching, her favorite job was mother to her children, Alessandra, Gabriel, Isabella, Jack, and Luke. After the loss of their son, Gabriel, Kathy and Marc created a scholarship fund in his honor at Lourdes, exemplifying her benevolent character. Kathy loved to read books on sunny beaches and decorate for holidays, especially Christmas. Kathy will be remembered as incredibly thoughtful, kind, and loving. She was known to give the greatest gifts and bake the most delicious chocolate chip cookies. Kathy was happiest when her family was together. Kathy passed away on Oct. 26, 2023, in Ridgefield, WA. Kathy is survived by her husband, Marc; children, Alessandra, Isabella, Jack, and Luke; mother, Virginia Dunbar; and sister, Kris Karls, and her husband, Aaron. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Dunbar; and her son, Gabriel Antonio. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater, 218 West 12th St., Vancouver, WA 98660, at 11 a.m. A recitation of the rosary will be held before Mass at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances in Kathy’s memory to the Gabriel Antonio Fazio Scholarship Fund at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, 4701 Franklin St., Vancouver, WA 98663 or through this link: https://lourdesvan.org/fund-facts/

In the early years (1960 & 70s) our families were members of Bellevue Christian Church where Kathy´s mother Virginia was the long-time music and choir director. Norm and Barb sang in the choir next to Ernie for many years with Virginia up front directing. Choir practice Thursday nights in the Fireside Room. Sometimes the kids of families, including Kathy and Kris, whose both parents sang would be at practices playing around waiting until practice was over. Our families children took private piano lessons at the Dunbar home after school for some years and the kids would play around while each kiddo got their lesson. All the kids had fun. All this activity and the church itself was a wonderful foundation for the rest of life for us all. Kathy was so energetic, fun, positive and a joy as a child when we mostly knew her. Obviously it sounds from others that those qualities of Kathy blossomed and continued through her wonderful life as a mother, wife, teacher and friend to many. Our family honors the Fazio and Dunbar family and sends our heartfelt prayers and condolences. We are thinking of you all and Kathy. Kathy´s loving and comforting spirit will always be there if you call to her in your private moments and she will be waiting, eager to one day welcome her loved ones home to her. Peace be with you all - always.

First off, my deepest condolences to the entire Fazio family. Our daughters (Jordyn and Alessandra) played soccer together for years. Kathy always had a calm disposition and a kind, sweet smile. She will be greatly missed. The Voyles family

I remember her engagement. She ran to Jeanie a long time pre-school teacher with so much joy and happiness. She just glowed with love. I saw Jesus love at that moment. Teri Moyer

I am so sorry to see this. I remember when Kathy first started at Lourdes. We were classroom neighbors. We shared many laughs together at the end of our teaching day. She will be missed.
