Kathryn Osier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Canale Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Marquette on Mar. 12, 2026.
Kathryn H. Osier, 80, of Marquette, passed away on March 5, 2026, at her home.

Kathryn was born on September 7, 1945, in Hancock, Michigan, to Edmond T. and Edith A. (Maki) Stefaniak. She was a 1963 graduate of A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer and later attended Northern Michigan University, where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

It was during high school in Bessemer that Kathryn met the love of her life, Thomas H. Osier, and the two were married on August 19, 1967.

Kathryn dedicated many years to teaching and education. After graduation from NMU she was a teacher at Marquette Senior High School. Later in her career she served as a teacher's aide at several Marquette schools, including Cherry Creek Elementary School, Whitman Elementary School, and Graveraet Elementary School.

Kathryn loved the outdoors and enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels, and deer in her yard. She loved working on jigsaw puzzles. She was an avid reader. She loved to collect Owl figurines, clowns, and wolf art. She loved caring for and taking walks with her dogs. She enjoyed going for drives around Presque Isle with her husband. She enjoyed attending NMU sporting events. She and her husband Tom loved to go out and eat at their favorite local restaurant, the Bodega. Most of all, Kathryn cherished her family and especially loved staying active and involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Earlier in life she was an avid golfer. Kathryn was a member of the Cedar Savages social and off-road club, and the Zonta Club in Marquette for many years, empowering women through service and advocacy. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Kathryn and her husband were members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette where she also taught Sunday School for several years.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Thomas J. (Cristine) Osier of Marquette, Ann (Todd) Madely of Clay, New York, and Michael (Erika) Osier of Traunik; her grandchildren, Owen, William, and Megan; her brothers, Larry (Cheryl) Stefaniak, Ted (Edie) Stefaniak, and Stephen Stefaniak; her nieces, Stacy, Allison, and Laurie; her nephews, Ted and Chris; and special friends, Dave and Karen Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Edith Stefaniak; her husband, Thomas H. Osier; and her sister-in-law, Doris Stefaniak.

A memorial service for Kathryn and her husband, Thomas, will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steve Solberg officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marquette Regional History Center, 145 West Spring Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
