Kathryn A. Rixon, age 76 of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, at the Newton Medical Center.
Born in Newark to the late August and Elizabeth (Cafone) Azevedo, Kathryn grew up in Belleville and lived in Bloomfield, before settling in Vernon twenty-six years ago. Kathryn worked for over forty years as a respiratory therapist, retiring from Orange Regional Medical Center in 2014. She enjoyed dancing and crocheting. She loved animals and had a special fondness for big dogs. She was predeceased by her beloved St. Bernard, Max, on January 10th.
Predeceased by her parents, Kathryn is survived by her loving husband, Bill Rixon; sons Dean Sternik (Wendy) and John Sternik (Nicole); daughter Jennifer Arminio (Joe); and son Billy Rixon (Maria); as well as grandchildren Caitlin McMeen (Zach), Jordan and Brandon Sternik (Brittany), Shane, Riley, and John Sternik, and Jessica and Joseph Arminio; great-grandchildren Maverick McMeen and Hazel Sternik; brothers David (Claudette) and Alan Azevedo (Lorraine); and sister, Ellen Azevedo (Bob).
Arrangements for Kathryn are private and under the direction of the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94, Vernon, NJ 07462. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sin City St. Bernard Rescue (sincitysaintrescue.org). Online condolences may be offered through fergusonfuneralhomesnj.com
