Kathryn Sadie Thayer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on February 21st, 1961, in Petaluma, California, to Standly and Doris Elliott. She unexpectedly departed from this world on February 8th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathryn, known affectionately as "Kathy," lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments with her family and friends. She had a vibrant spirit and a contagious enthusiasm for life. Kathy found joy in simple pleasures, such as playing Uno with her grandchildren, indulging in trips to the casino, and embarking on shopping adventures.
Before her stroke, Kathy dedicated herself to shaping young minds as a devoted preschool teacher for many years. Her nurturing and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on the lives of countless children.
In 1977, Kathy crossed paths with the love of her life, Douglas Thayer, during their high school years.
Their connection blossomed into a beautiful partnership, and on June 20th, 1980, they exchanged vows, marking the beginning of a lifelong journey together. Their union was blessed with three children: Amber, Ashley, and Douglas Warren Jr. (DJ).
Kathy's move to Yakima, Washington, in the 6th grade marked the start of many cherished memories in her new community. She shared close bonds with her siblings: Bernard, Ronald, Michael, and Jean, who brought endless joy and laughter into her life.
She is survived by her three adoring children: Amber (Cody) Wilkerson of Tieton, WA; Ashley (Josh) Campbell of Montgomery, TX; and Douglas Jr. (Chelsea) of Yamhill, OR. Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love in the hearts of her siblings: Bernard (Shari), Ronald (Jeri), Michael, and Jean.
Kathy's greatest joy came from being a grandmother to Richard Walmsley-Thayer, Elijah and Isaac Campbell, Madison and Emily Thayer, Avan Munson, Caleb, Jensen, Abigail, and Adalynn Wilkerson. Their laughter and playful antics brought immense happiness into her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas Thayer, her parents, Standly and Doris Elliott, her father-in-law, Raymond Thayer, and her sister-in-law, Sharon Wright.
Kathy's vibrant spirit, unwavering love, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may have left this world unexpectedly, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A celebration of Kathy's life will take place with her cremation, and a formal Celebration of Life will be held in May 2024. Further details regarding dates, times, and locations will be announced closer to the event.
May she rest in peace, knowing she was cherished and adored by all who knew her.
